What a wonderful wedding this was. I cannot say enough about how easy it was to work with these families. They are all so nice, and the wedding went off without a hitch (well, except for a little debate about either a white shirt, or off-white). I had a blast! Thanks guys :)

Although it was pretty hot, it turned out to be relly nice weather for Amy & Ryan's Engagement session. They are both born and raised in the Edwardsville area, so what better place to start than at the courthouse?

Ryan can really make Amy laugh...which helped a lot to get things going!

Amy's ring, by the way, almost BLINDED me when I first saw it. It's gorgeous, period. Way to go, Ryan!

This one below, in front of the "old" St John's UMC (our church) is one of my favorites...

But, it's a close second to this one.....

After the wedding, no single-family cookie-cutter house for these guys. They're gonna live in the wide open spaces of the great Midwest. So, I thought this was an appropriate setting:

Awesome light!! This is my favorite time of day to shoot. Looking good, guys!

Of course..we had to go to my favorite barn...

Kristen and Bryan were married.....

...At the St Louis, MO Botannical Gardens on May 22, 2010.
It was such a beautiful day for a wedding. They were married under the gazebo in the Boxwood Garden. Afterwards, we strolled around the Garden to take some creative and romantic photos. They were so very patient and willing to let me create some wonderful memories for them. I think, because of that, I took some of my most favorite wedding images ever!

What a year it has been!

Kids Of All Ages

Everybody Outside

For as long as I can remember, traditional portrait studios were no fun. The sitting, the waiting, the lights, the uncomfortable poses....the list goes on. I always felt that people would be much happier in photos if they got to go outdoors and move around.

The very last thing I want to do with family pictures is throw everyone into a routine of awkward poses. I like to let people move around, and have fun!

Say You Will....

The first thing I tell my engagement clients is that we're not going for the "prom" look. That old, uncomfortable way of posing does nothing to convey the feelings of two people who are about to be married!

My engagement sessions are very relaxed, and involve the couple just spending some good quality time together. I try to capture people the way that they are day in and day out.

A Day In The Life Of.....

I've always wanted to journalize a happy couple's big day with photographs. It's been my theory that the most powerful and memorable moments of a wedding day happen in between the bigger moments....

I've been fortunate enough to run into some great people who think in the same way.
I've never liked any "cookie cutter" style wedding albums with many different versions of the same pose, only with different sets of people. I want to create something more than that. A visual record of what really happened that day, true emoton and all...

I believe a wedding is a wonderful, momentus event. Therefore, I also believe that it calls for some breathtaking, well thought out photography. I consider weddings to be serious business, so in order to give them the time they deserve I only accept a very limited number of weddings per year.

I've restructured my rates into an all-inclusive, flat, creative-based fee of $2500. I don't offer print packages, albums, short wedding rates or any combination thereof. My style of photography encompasses the entire day, start to finish. I think that's the way it should be. However, with brides beginning to get ready at 10am, this makes for a long work day!

If you should decide to work with me, you'll get the entire day covered by me (unlimited number of pictures, of course), all the creative editing applied to your photos, a proof book which is yours to keep, and the high-res DVD with all of the images. Of course you may print from this DVD if you like. I'll also have the online gallery available for sharing photos and ordering prints. If you are interested in albums, etc afterwards I will be glad to assist you in finding quality designers to meet those needs.

I can't really say that I've always wanted to be a photographer or that I was the kid in school who who constantly took pictures. But, in the last few years I've become fascinated with creating these memories for my own family. I guess that I'm a "gadget guy" at heart. I find it intersting how the complex technology of today's camera can create something so simple and powerful.

I started doing this for two primary reasons. First and foremost; I wanted people to have something better than the whole "Portrait Studio" experience. For me, it's really frustrating to sit in a studio and wait while the kids fuss, only to end up with "Okay" results. On top of that, it seems really unnatural to me. I wanted people to have something that reflected how they really are in everyday life. Secondly, on some level, it speaks to me. Pictures really do say a thousand words, and at times they scream out loud when I look at a photo or a subject through the lens.

I'm a natural light photographer; I feel that this light can bring out the powerful emotion and personality found in us all. I don't work out of a studio, you can find me shooting family portraits outdoors at various local parks; or inside homes using the beautiful light coming in through a window
